Seriously - this can't be the end of all things.

Well, as my flist knows very well, I have had quite the weekend.  I have used the term "giddy" more times that I care to remember (I'm still a little froofy).  And this morning, The Greater Cosmos(tm) decided it needed to take its pound of flesh.  Luckily, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

I had parked my car behind K's this weekend, but she has a freaking-butt-huge driveway and she has constantly assured me that she can get around my car in the morning, no problem.  Well, this morning she was on her way to her student-teaching and momentarily forgot that I was behind her and her Toyota FJ Cruiser crunched the front end of my Ford Explorer.  She came back in the house in tears and I thought that the whole front end was totaled, the way she was going on.  Honestly, it wasn't too bad (but I would be freaking out if it was me, so I can't blame her).  The bumper's a little twisted, the plastic on the top part of the headlight is gone and the hood is pushed up about an inch.  But the amazing thing - the engine doesn't even know anything happened!  I started it up just to see what would happen and, I swear, if the engine could talk, it'd be all "Dent? Hood? Headlight? Grill? WHUT??"  The headlights still work - it just took out the plastic covering - and the grill has seen better days, but the "Ford" logo is still intact and that's all I care about. XD

I just feel bad that K feels bad.  I am totally okay with it.  No one got hurt and, as far as I'm concerned, the damage was minimal (can you imagine if I drove a Camry or a Civic?  Oy... There's a customer testimonial for you).  I would feel worse if the situation had been switched because her Toyota is newer and nicer (her car is okay - it took out a piece of her back signal light, but nothing else).

Honestly, those Explorers are tanks.  It still runs just fine (I won't be driving it too far until we get the bumper back into place for the simple fact that it's about an inch from my tire, but it just looks like someone could pull it out and pop it back into place).  Shoot, my sister rolled an Explorer once upon a time and even though it landed hind-end up, you could still start the thing and drive it.  So, my car is totally okay.  There'll just be a little cosmetic work - there is a small-ish dent on the hood, but I really don't see the need to haul it in for massive body work.  It's a '98 model, it has 140,000 miles on it and... yeah, it's just a war-wound.  Accidents happen.  Milk spills.  Life is messy.

Don't you see why I love Fords? ^_^
So, I keep seeing ads about Toyota and their commitment to fixing their recall problems.  It's great that they're trying their best to make things right, as well they should.  Personally, I'm happy to be a Ford girl *hugs Explorer*

The only time I've driven a Toyota was on my mission because the Church buys Corollas for the missionaries to use.  It was okay - I got in a minor fender-bender in the one I drove - but it's not my favorite car.  Luckily, I only drove the Corolla in one area, then I was transferred to another area that had a Chevy Malibu, which was the closest thing to 4-wheel drive the mission had.  In spite of my loyalty to Ford, I loved that sucker.  Lots of room and fast - and it was just fun to drive.  In fact, if I ever feel the need to trade in my Explorer and downsize, I would consider the Malibu (not all Ford people hate Chevy, you know).

This is the second Explorer I've had.  I learned to drive in one and we drove that thing into the ground - literally.  When I was away at college, my sister drove it to school for a couple of years (on 20 miles of dirt road one-way) and she rolled it one day.  The body and everything was totaled (my sister and brother were fine), but the engine still ran - kind of a cool story that I'll tell another time.

The only way I'll probably not have an Explorer is if/when I get married and my hubby insists that, for the sake of gas mileage and what-have-you, we'll have to trade it in for something a bit more efficient (never mind that my Explorer gets an average 20 MPG - it's been known to get 40 in some places - but that's all highway.  In town, the average MPG goes down.  But I do a LOT of highway driving, on dirt no less - and that's just to get to a grocery store.  Maybe when I settle down I'll need to rethink things).  My sister had an Explorer Sport and her husband suggested that she get something smaller so they could save on gas money.  She ended up with a Pontiac Grand Am and they're going to sell her Explorer.  I wanted to cry for her because she's having to give up her Explorer, but that's because I'm a nerd that way.  And she's a lot more practical than I am, so she doesn't care.  Shoot, she got a new (to her) car!  Why should she be sad?

Again, I'm not sure why I felt the need to bring this up.  Just a stray thought, I suppose (not to mention a wild tangent too boot) ^_^
Just what it says.  I slept in until noon yesterday (well, actually 11:30), made sausages and scrambled eggs, waited until I had the apartment all to myself (sorry, [profile] shellic, you know I love you ^_^), and camped out on the couch watching "Cars" and "Back to the Future II" and all the fun little special features that came with the DVDs.  I had an excuse: I didn't get back until 1:30 am after the Girls' Choice Dance on Friday night (no, I am not a night owl.  Why do you ask?)

I wish that I could have gone home this weekend, though.  Delta had their home playoff game against Ogden, though I kinda wish it had been in Ogden so I could have gone to it easier (then again, it just had to be the same night as the dance, so never mind).  Delta won, which means they get to go to State next week (yay!) all the way in St. George (boo!)  I would just give school the middle finger this week and trek down there, except that I have a rough draft due in my Creative Non-Fiction class and that I don't fancy driving down from Logan to St. George all by my lonesome on the dreaded freeway of DEATH I-15 (it's not so bad when you get past Spanish Fork.  The problem is actually getting there in one piece -- I swear, people lose all ability and sense when they enter the Wasatch Front area of I-15.  You could be Grampa-Driver's-Ed, but you get south of Ogden and north of Provo, your driving abilities turn to mush).

So, yep.  Not much else to report, though I was surprised that [profile] shellic didn't know that Michael J. Fox played Marty's daughter in "Back to the Future II"  Remember when Jennifer gets stuck in hers and Marty's future home in the 2015 sequence?  Remember that really ugly interesting-looking girl that came down the stairs and greeting Grandma Lorraine?  That was Michael J. Fox in drag.  I knew that, but I found out this weekend that [profile] shellic didn't.  It was weird having to explain it to her ^_^

I really love the BttF movies.  I had a parody-thing written for the first one back in the day, but it was on my home computer that got eaten by the terrible electric surge of whenever-the-heck-that-was *sad pandas*  I remember some things, but I'm trying to recreate it in my spare (ha!) time.  George still remains one of my favorite characters (how can you not love "My density has bought me to you"  Pure gold!)

Aaaaand now I'm babbling about nothing, so I will close this up and live to babble another day.  Happy President's Day!

Love from,
