This is just a fun commercial and I think it deserves to be spread far and wide.

Super Bowl goodness - yay!  I enjoyed myself.  It helped that I didn't care who won (and I didn't notice Christina Aguliera (however you spell her name) flubbing the National Anthem - maybe I'm bad American or something... Honestly, after all the pre-game festivities and what-have-you, I was ready to get going with the game).  The ads were okay.  Nothing really stood out - it was all Super Bowl quality stuff (really, I think the only way a Super Bowl ad could get noticed is if it were your basic run-of-the-mill regular season ad.  I could have done without all the shameless Glee promos, though.  Seriously - I do not understand the draw of that show.  Is it just the music?  Because the characters are so... WB (or CW, if you like).  Really, since "24" was canceled, I don't watch Fox TV shows anymore.  They all just seem so shallow and pointless (that being said - I probably would enjoy "House" just because Hugh Laurie is amazingly funny and sarcastic, but I'm not much for squicky medical dramas).

What else - had a great class weekend.  Lots of things got done - I feel really good about my chosen field (which, a year into my master's program, is a very good thing).  My adviser is working on finding a library to host me in my practicum this summer, which is exciting.  I'm going to the Utah Library Association conference in May and I can't wait!  But this is a really good story - I was going to ask my classmates if any of them wanted to go in on a hotel room, just to make the cost more reasonable (I'm poor and a little bit cheap at the moment) and three people offered to have me stay at their houses!  Plus, there's one lady who's a substitute for the Salt Lake County Library, which would be a great entry-level way for me to eventually get a full-time job.  I asked her how she got on there and she told me (she's got kids at home, so she's not going to be doing full-time stuff anytime soon) - then, she said that if a position opened up, I could use her as a reference!  I've got some really great classmates. :)

Also - some of my students might go do Region Drama competition in April, which I sort of volunteered to be their coach (still knowing next-to-nothing about drama - beyond having participated in one drama competition when I was in high school, plus directing the Christmas play).  It'll be fun... but piled on top of everything else I'm doing this semester (did I also mention I'm planning a baby shower for my sister in May? - yeah, we'll see how my sanity holds up.  But really, I'd rather be busy than bored out of my skull like I was last summer.  Last summer was pretty crappy (other than being introduced to a certain science-fiction series we all know and love - oh, guess what!  I got a TARDIS USB hub from ThinkGeek! It's sitting on my desk now looking so awesome and I love it!)

Last week I also got released from the Relief Society presidency.  They didn't have us in for too long, but the other counselor went on a mission and the secretary's getting ready to go and the president's been having family issues she's dealing with... which meant I was more or less running the branch Relief Society for two months.  I didn't mind - but I live clear in the heck far away from the rest of the branch, which was really hard for me to do anything.  So, the branch presidency reorganized the Relief Society and I am currently without a calling.  Well, that's not entirely true - I was told they have something for me to do, but nothing's official yet.  Stay tuned for further updates.

I have so much homework to do... except I have at least two teeth that are giving me so much pain and anguish right now.  I have a dentist appointment in a few weeks (after I get paid and have a day off from work), until then, Motrin is my friend.  I'm just lucky this goes in spurts - I won't feel anything for a while, then it'll just start this shooting pain through my head and giving me a headache.  Oy...
It's officially official - Super Bowl XLV will be between the Green Bay Packer and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  FINALLY - two teams that I have equal respect and admiration for playing for the Lombardi trophy (thus, I don't develop an ulcer from the stress.  Hey, sports is SRS BSNS around here).

First - I am thrilled beyond all reason that no AFC East teams are going to the Super Bowl.  At the outset of this year's playoffs, it looked like the Patriots would be the AFC's entrant, which had me rolling my eyes from here 'til next Tuesday.  Then the Jets took them out - while I have no great love for the Jets, it was good to have the Tom Brady fangirls at ESPN and NFL Network at bay.  But now, it's even better because after tonight, there's no reason to have Rex Ryan on TV flapping his big fat arrogant mouth (I honestly can't stand the guy).

Second - this is just going to be a fun game to watch.  I like Aaron Rodgers and I'd like him to win a Super Bowl (and maybe they can chill out on all the Brett Favre comparisons.  GET OVER IT - HE'S RETIRED ALREADY!**)  But I also like Troy Polumalu and the Steelers' defense.  Big Ben's okay too - I'm not sure how I feel about the whole sexual harassment allegations thing (I admit, I haven't followed that story very closely, so I can't really comment on it).  Bottom line - I like both teams and I'm just going to have fun on February 6 and enjoy the game.

Third - Billy Gardell (aka Mike Biggs from "Mike and Molly") is a Steelers fan.  There's no real reason for me to bring that up other than it's pretty cool.  I love that show.

**subject to last-minute waffling.  But please, for the love of Lombardi, Brett - stay home next year.
First off, I would have been  posting celebratory craziness yesterday - HAD IT NOT BEEN for the fact that my internet at home is down (I'm on my cousin's internet, so this will be short, sadly).  But, here it is - 12 hours late:

THE COLTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!  AND THE JETS AREN'T!!! NEITHER ARE THE PATRIOTS OR THE COWBOYS!!!! NEENER, NEENER, FREAKING NEENER!!!!!!!

(I apparently have some family members that like to lurk about here and post idiotic comments anonymously.  Luckily, I screen anonymous comments so I can delete them later, so that little bit is for them - so's the icon - ha HA!!)

So, I'm happy.  Actually, I was rooting for a Colts-Saints Super Bowl when they were both undefeated - and I contend that they BOTH should still be undefeated (damn Dallas - Tony Romo, I hate YOUUUUUUU).  But, this'll be good anyway.  Of course I have to go with my boys in blue over the Saints - team loyalty and what-have-you.  LET'S HEAR IT FOR A COLTS REPEAT!!!  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!

And speaking of "Who dat?" - how about that Vikings-Saints finish last night?  I'm a little sad Brett Favre went out the way he did, but that's the way it goes, you know.  (And I don't care if the old man is retiring or not.  They'll figure that all out as they go).

But I'm out for a few hours/days/weeks (oh gosh, I hope not weeks...) until the internet technician peeps can get out here and fix whatever's wrong.  Have a good one anyway, folks ^_^
They said it could never be done.  Against the perfect New England Patriots?  After an 0-2 start to the regular season?  With such a crappy recent history?  And having been dumped upon by the media?  But...

THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS HAVE COME FROM THE MIDDLE OF FREAKING NOWHERE TO WIN SUPER BOWL XLII!!!  TWO-PEAT FOR THE MANNING BROTHERS!!! (AND NOT TO MENTION ALL THE OTHER AWESOME GIANTS GUYS THAT ALL CONTRIBUTED)  THIS DESERVE CAPSLOCK OF VICTORY!!  I AM NOW AND FOREVER MORE A NEW YORK GIANTS FAN!!! (I promised whoever would beat the Patriots I would be their undying fan forever and anon.  Plus, I love Eli Manning ^_^)

(I need a New York Giants hat now.  That was the best mission send-off I could have asked for.  I was almost afraid the last NFL game I got to watch before leaving for Florida would be the Patriots winning the Super Bowl.  But the Giants came through for me.  My prediction for next year: it'll be a Colts-Giants Super Bowl.)

Speaking of New England:

EIGHTEEN-AND-FREAKING-ONE!!! EAT THAT YOU BIG, CHEATING BABY PATRIOTS!!!!  THE NINERS NEVER LOST A SUPER BOWL DURING THEIR DYNASTY AND NEITHER DID THE STEELERS!!!  I NEVER WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER WORD ABOUT A PATRIOTS DYNASTY!! THEY CAN EAT FISH AND DIE!!!!  AND BELICHICK DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE SPINE TO STAY ON THE FIELD FOR THE FINAL SNAP AT :01.  WHAT A BABY!!

(18-1! 18-1! 18-1!  HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!)
Now it's been over a week?  In my defense, I have been away from internet access since last Thursday.  Plus, I spent last Wednesday and Thursday substituting at the school again.

So, yeah, here's my life since then.  Be warned: it's long.  Just pick a cut link and here we go!

Oh stink, Fred Thompson's out of the presidential race.  Well, maybe Romney will make him the VP candidate.  In the meantime, I need to go thaw.
Didn't realize it had been four days since I last posted.

The New York Giants just beat the Dallas Cowboys, which means that I am assured of at least one team to cheer for in the Super Bowl (Indianapolis lost to San Diego earlier today, which meant a cranky, grumpy, disappointed and "Don't-talk-to-me-I-will-tear-out-your- liver-and-make-you-eat-it" Wildcat).  I was afraid that it would end up being a Patriots (who I hate with a passion unbridled)-Cowboys (who I also hate with a passion equally unbridled) Super Bowl.  But I like the Packers and the Giants, so I don't care who wins the NFC championship. Brett Favre's got the talent, tradition and he's fun to watch.  Eli Manning's been getting kicked around by the media and he's kind of a cutie (like his brother, Peyton ^_^).  The Packers could probably take New England in the Super Bowl and the Giants nearly beat the Patriots a few weeks ago, so this love affair with the Pats is not going to last.  Even better if San Diego takes them out next week (I don't really care about San Diego either way - except they've beaten the Colts twice this year, so their likability for me is in question).

I just think it would be fantastic if either the Packers or the Giants beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.  For Green Bay, the Packers kinda stunk last year and everybody thought Brett Favre was going to retire last year.  But then they came out and had a great year and Favre (who should have been the league MVP, but the people who vote on this stuff all want to have Tom "N'Sync" Brady's baby. *vomit*) is back to being brilliant.

For the Giants, they're so much fun to watch when they're good, but they haven't been 100% all year.  When they do bad, everyone writes them off and blames Eli Manning.  When they do good, people just say it's a fluke and "wait-until-next-week-when-they-lay-another-egg."  But they've been playing good the past few weeks, so we'll see.

For now, I'm laughing because Tony Romo hasn't won a playoff game.  And Jessica Simpson wasn't even there to jinx it, so he doesn't have that excuse.  What a dork. :P

The Indianapolis Colts are going to the Super Bowl!!!!111!1!

I already did it on my MySpace blog and profile (you'd think I was happy about this or something), but the good news needs to be spread all over my sphere of influence on the 'net.  The Colts beat the Patriots 34-38 and I am just giddy-drunk with excitement!

For all the naysaying and all the weenie-boys at CBS predicting a Patriots dynasty (evidently, three Super Bowl wins in the last five years counts as a dynasty to some people... and next year, it'll be all about how they've won three Super Bowls in the past six years... o_O) and all the talk about how Peyton Manning can't win the big games, we finally get to shut the analysts up and we get to shut the Patriots fans up (which, I've been trying to do since 2001).

The sad thing is that I think I jinxed the first half.  I watched the Patriots score first and I watched the Patriots fumble the ball and the Colts "recover", but somehow the Pats ended up with it in the endzone (the lineman of all people... I ask you...)  I watched until the Patriots intercepted the ball and made the score 21-3.  I agonized and fumed and cursed Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and the Colts' defense and the CBS commentators and finally had to turn off the TV because I would not be able to stand watching my fellow Colts fans look so pitiful and the Patriots celebrate.  So, I worked on my memoir for my Creative Non-Fiction class (which is another monster altogether).  I finished that and turned the TV back on and saw that the Colts had scored a few more times, but I was in time to watch the Patriots run a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Disgusted with myself and figuring I was the bad luck, I turned the TV off, but it didn't last long because, like any good fan, I Just Couldn't Stand It!  I got up the guts to watch one more play and, as I turned on the TV, I could hear Indy fans cheering, saw Brady throw the ball and...  one of the Colts caught it!!! I didn't even see who it was; all I could see was a blue-and-white jersey over the football, Peyton Manning come off the bench in celebration and hear the RCA Dome explode.  Right there (and
[profile] shellic can attest to this) I WENT NUTS!! The last time I jumped up and down so crazy like that was when the last time the Jazz went to the Finals.

It's easier to tell the ensuing insanity in a bulleted list:
  • My nine-year-old cousin is a HUGE Patriots fan.  We have not been able to convert him from the dark side, but I called and told my sister to give him a few "NEENER-NEENER"s for me.  Mom, however, told me to be nice and classy, even though my cousin never was/is.  Tell you what, you be classy.  I have a few noogies to hand out.
  • Speaking of class (or a lack thereof), why couldn't Belichick just shake Peyton Manning's hand on the way out?  Murgh...
  • I finally have a team to cheer for instead of against in the big game.  I don't think that's happened since the Raiders were in the Super Bowl.  It's been cheer against the Patriots or the Seahawks, but I finally get to cheer for a team that I like.
  • All season, I've watched Peyton Manning put on that Colts ballcap when he's on the sideline and after games, but it looks pretty good to see him put on a "Colts AFC Champions" hat and shirt.  It'll look even better when it says "Colts Super Bowl Champs"
  • As much as I've cheered against him when he was a Patriot, it's nice to have Adam Vinatieri on your side.  Especially after last week against the Ravens.
  • And I have to give mad props to our defense.  After all the analyst crap about how the Colts are just Peyton Manning and the offense, the defense has really stepped up in the playoffs.  It's kind of like a sleeping giant analogy or something clever like that (I think my adrenaline starting to wear off.  I'm, becoming less and less snappy)
  • Have I mentioned that Peyton Manning is a freaking good football player?  Not to mention a hard worker?  Not to mention a really great and funny guy?  Not to mention cuter than Tom Brady? (spoken like a true female sports fan ^_^  Seriously, Tom Brady looks like a boy-band reject.  Peyton's got this down-to-earth charm that just...sigh...works)
  • Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith (the coach of the Chicago Bears who are the NFC Champs, by the way) are good friends.  They're playing each other in the Super Bowl.  They're also the first African-American coaches to play in the Super Bowl.  Hm... that's cool.  I guess that'll give the analysts something to hash over in the ensuing days.
  • The Colts Are Going To The Super Bowl!!!!!  The only thing that could make it sweeter was if they beat the Patriots to get there... oh that's right: THEY DID!!!11!
  • I think interjecting 1s into my series of exclamation points is starting to get old...
And I think it's funny that this is really the first time I've blogged about professional football and my loyalties thereto.  Just a random observation.  In the meantime... Go Colts!

Love from,
