Fudge being a reference to Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic in the "Harry Potter" books and quite the inept and power-hungry politician that almost let the terrorist known as Lord Voldemort get a second chance at taking over the Wizarding World and ignored the sage advice of Albus Dumbledore, who was one of a small few to know and act on the truth in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" while everyone told him that he was off his rocker (just drawing some modern-day parallels, since I'm the only one that seems to get it).

Okay, so the midterm elections were yesterday and to hear the media, politicians and the unwashed bitter feminists that sit in the northeast corner in my Teaching Literature class, you'd think that the great civilization of Sodom and Gomorrah has fallen from the sky (which, the aforementioned parties would not be opposed to).  I'm talking about the Democrats getting the majority in Congress over the Republicans.

Now, I don't typically discuss politics on my blog, but this is freckin' annoying me to death.  The fact that CNN and MSNBC are having a collective media frenzy over this is enough to make one want to puke.  Honestly, how can little over half the voting population of this country be so stupid (not to mention a little over half the population of Viriginia)?  You put a bunch of whiny, peace-love-dope pacifists into government when we're in the middle of a war and you expect us to come out okay?  When I was in class today, I wanted to go wipe the smiles off their little unwashed hippie faces.  That or throw a bar of soap at them; I haven't decided which would be more amusing.

Then, I go to my US History class and we discussed how Donald Rumsfeld is resigning and how this is historic and that this election could be a catalyst for a number of things, none of which I liked.  My only consolation was that I survived eight years under Bill Clinton and the world (miracle of miracles) did not explode.  So, I suppose I could handle this setback.

Then, we got to the main class lecture on the Jimmy Carter administration and I really was looking for a gun to put in my mouth.  But, if there is one lesson to be learned from the history of national elections, it's that Carter was followed by Reagan and Clinton was followed by Bush (43).  There is yet hope.

Then (it keeps getting better and better, apparently), I got my midterm paper back today and my only real saving grace was that I'm a whiz at spelling and grammar.  Evidently, analyzing history books is not my forte, nor is formulating theses and conclusions from said analysis's.  Things did get better when I passed the bookstore on my way home and they were giving out bags of nifty free samples of pens, pencils, chocolate and soap.

The soap I'll save for my next Teaching Lit class.  I owe a certain corner of people a little present.
