Looking for Trouble
Oct. 3rd, 2006 09:41 pm(Stupid computer is so slow. I guess that's what I get for importing songs onto my iPod while I'm trying to blog).
I just got back from The Remus Lupins concert at the Bombshell Exchange (which is this little secondhand store in downtown Logan). For those who have no idea what I'm babbling about, Remus Lupin is a character in the Harry Potter books (Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the third books and my all-time favorite Marauder). The Remus Lupins is one guy, Alex Carpenter, who writes songs about Harry Potter and does this cool thing where he mixes the recording so it sounds like he has backup singers.
Anywho, he's on tour with some other bands and I saw on MySpace that he was scheduled to play in -- of all places -- Logan. I squeed and
shellic squeed and we both said "WE HAVE TO GO!!" So, we rounded up some more Potterholic friends and tonight was the show.
Oh. Em. Gee. This guy can rock! It didn't really matter that we were the minority when it came to actually knowing about Harry Potter (one person even requested a song about Lord of the Rings -- good grief, can't you see the Hogwarts banner and the prefect badge?) I sang along with all the songs and even screamed that Snape, indeed, SUCKS! (c'mon, he kills Dumbledore and you think there is redemption? Give me a break.)
The best part: I bought a CD and got Remus (aka Alex) to sign it and I got a picture with him (he even gave me a hug *Sue-Style-SQUEE!!* I may never wash this shirt again... okay, maybe I will ^_^) He was so nice and so excited about Harry Potter and he thought it was cool that I had the Gryffindor crest on my shirt (I don't know if he saw "The Marauders" on the back, though). It was so freaking awesome! We rocked out to "Looking for Trouble", "Loosen Your Tie" and even pulled out the old "lighter/cell phone light" ballad trick for "Remember Cedric" (I even got
shellic to yell "Hufflepuff" after that song). We were high off of the coolness that is Wizard Rock. And that's okay :)
If you ever get the chance to see the Remus Lupins live, I highly recommend it.[Unknown site tag]
"How many effed up things does he have to do before we say 'I don't trust this dude?'" A man after my own heart ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
This is why I love being a Harry Potter fan so much. See, the actual percentage of HP fans in that crowd probably wasn't that big (there was a family with little kids and us). Most of the people were there because there were some other bands playing (the Remus Lupins weren't the headliner). But, the idea is that Jo Rowling has created this story that has inspired people in so many different ways - whether it's music, drawing, painting, crafts, web design or writing. Everyone that Jo has inspired come together and share talents and make friends that we wouldn't normally meet. It's more than a kids' fantasy series (which, it really isn't, but that's what people dismiss it as XP). I love Harry Potter for the different things I've been exposed to and the things I've learned and (most importantly) the people I get to meet.
Wow, that was incredibly deep ^_^
Love from,
Jenny Wildcat
PS, Go Gryffindor! Lions for the Cup!! (50 points if you know which HP book that comes from)
