I Win. part dos
Sep. 9th, 2006 12:23 pmThis is a meaningless and insignificant thing, but I deserve bragging rights for it anyway. Last week during A-Day on the Quad, I entered a drawing for Mary Kay prizes and things and I ended up winning second place, which is a free facial for me and two friends.
Now see how irony favors the Wildcat: I wear makeup very rarely, if at all (though I do like Mary Kay) and I have few friends to speak of. So, I'm scrambling among roommates, former roommates, IWA and Relief Society girls to find a couple of people who would like to come with me and are available at the time specified. I did find two roommates who wanted to go and I'm sure it was all very amusing to watch and I'm happy to oblige the Irony Gods sick and their twisted sense of humor.
Why do people have to park their cars in front of the office windows so the glare from the sun drills right into my cornea? Just a random observation.
Speaking of work, yesterday the office had an end-of-summer lunch party at the White Owl down the street, which is a bar and grill in every sense of the word. They have a pool hall and two bars, but the best part was that the grill was on the rooftop patio and they make some pretty darn good burgers. It's a little too reminiscent of my younger childhood days of going with my parents to visit my uncle's ranch in Nevada (where the daily fare was Keystone and Marlboro) for my tastes. There's more to the story than simply "Ew, you drink and smoke so I can't associate with you", but that would involve posting it here FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE and thus, putting me at the mercy of my parents' wrath and "your writing is embarassing us again", which is the only comment I ever get from them. Anyway, the White Owl has great TGIF burgers if you can stand walking through the cloud of smoke to get to the roof.
I'm loving being a history major and am wondering what took me so long to get going. I have two US History classes which pretty much cover the same time period, just about. One is the US from 1877 to the present and one is 1900-1945. So now, movies like "Newsies" (which I watched again last night, awesome movie as always) have taken on a whole new meaning for me. It also makes me want to see this "Flag of our Fathers" that's coming out this fall. The only problem is that it's probably rated R, since it is a war movie, which complicates things a bit. Then again, I have seen "The Patriot" and it didn't bother me much.
Speaking of good movies,
shellic has "Roman Holiday" with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck and we watched it last night after "Newsies" and, I have to say, those old movies are pretty good.
shellic is really into old classics and has a few and she's probably going to get me hooked before too long. I already love "To Kill a Mockingbird" (which stars Gregory Peck, for those of you hiding under rocks), and I'm ready to try out some more. I really liked the storytelling in "Roman Holiday" and it was just so funny. It's about a princess who's visiting Rome and she wants to get out of her royal duties. When she does, she meets an American newspaperman and he takes her out around Rome. It's too cute, but the ending frustrated me. Think of it as the first "Spider-Man" without the assurance of a sequel. "Blarg" to these writers who write love stories that don't end right!
'kay, that's enough from me. I just figured everyone was getting sick of seeing that political rant I had posted for the past few days, but I wasn't feeling very inspired to post. Sorry 'bout that.
Love from,
Jenny Wildcat
