I was all ready to go this morning, but my boss called and told me that he didn't need me today. Just as well. This job is not going to last very long and I need to find something more substantial (it only pays $10/hr with no benefits and I don't get very many hours. Granted, it's better than absolutely nothing). Luckily, I didn't wait for today to figure that out - I have an interview today at 3:30 with one company and should be scheduled for a second interview with a different company this week (I had the first last week, so this is good news). Both have pretty good pay and benefits (yay for benefits!) Cross your fingers that I'll have something soon.

But for today, I'm just cooling my heels on this Columbus Day (side note: this is the first time I've ever had Columbus Day off. School was never out for it, though I may have had it off when I was in first grade and they quit doing it somewhere along the line). Got some errands done that I didn't get done over the weekend (rainy/snowy Saturday will do that. Plus, it was General Conference and I rarely have a desire to get out of the house during the "bye" week).

"Heroes" is on tonight too, and I hope that we've had enough filler-set-up episodes and we actually start getting to the meat of the story. The problem with all these many characters in separate plot lines is that you have to keep track of them all and you forget about characters and things get muddled (sort of my beef with the "Wheel of Time" series - too many lines to keep track of, everyone is separated and you'd go whole books without seeing any of the main characters). With Heroes, I'm hoping that some of the characters' storylines will take them into other characters' storylines so everyone will be together and we can keep track of it easier.

But all that aside, after two weeks of teasing, it seems that Sylar will indeed be returning to the story. I keep thinking the girl with him in the promo looks like Ali Larter, which means that maybe Jessica and Niki are now separated? Or Sylar's been caught and he's in some drug-induced hallucination that creates the illusion that he's retired to the super-evil-villains Tahiti. I wonder if the Company(tm) caught him. Hmmm... so much speculation...

And a Quiz Because I'm Bored )
Premiere Week continues, this time with CSI.  Which, last season's cliffhanger was just mean.  Four months of wondering if Sara lives or dies is almost as bad as ten years of debating whether Harry Potter lives or dies at the end of book 7.  While I despise and detest the Grissom/Sara ship (it's one thing when the fans come up with these batcrap-insane pairings, but it's something completely else when they actually become canon - yes, I said "batcrap."  Deal with it.), I never said anything about offing Sara.  If she does die, it'll kinda, sorta suck.  Plus, all this *inviso-finger quotes* "GSR" (...the hell--? o_O) angst keeps the story away from the handsomeness that is Nick Stokes, which I do NOT appreciate.  At least Yahoo had a picture of Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) on it's big front-page promo.

[Slight off-topic rant, but this has got me going, especially with some of the ships that I've encountered in various fandoms that just irritate me.  Y'know, just because two carbon-based lifeforms make eye contact over the course of a season doesn't necessarily mean that they're hopping at the chance to get into each other's beds.  Some of this "OTP" stuff has gotten out of hand.  Not saying it's bad or wrong, necessarily (whatever melts your butter, I suppose), but please think about which characters you're shipping.  Some element of plausibility would be nice.  Why can't two characters just be really close friends (or really hated enemies - goes back to plausibility) and that's it?  Now that I've made more than a few people mad, let's move forward.]

But, in the spirit of "When it Rains, It Pours," remember how I'm slightly unemployed as of tomorrow?  Well, on Sunday, I got an e-mail from a real estate company looking for an assistant and I set up the interview for 6:00 tonight (hopefully it won't take two hours so I can get home in time for CSI, but I digress).  Then yesterday, another real estate company called and asked if they could meet with me today at 4:30 (that was the only time they could do it).  Soooo, right after work, I'm off to one interview and then I'll be on the road for another one and then it's home.  Plus, I went to this temp agency yesterday and got signed up on their system and they called this morning with a temp position for today and tomorrow, but I had to turn it down because I'm still working this job until Friday (heh... forgot to mention that minor detail... my bad...)

It's like that song "Lucky Man," by Montgomery Gentry.  You curse the rain and then complain when the sun's too hot.  A few days ago, I had no idea what the heck I was doing, but now I have the problem of having too many offers and I don't know which one is the one for me.  Oh well, that's how life goes.  At least I'm getting offers (and "No, but thank you anyway" is always viable and professional option).

Anyway, job hunting and then CSI tonight.  Good times. ^_^

(before anyone tries to sue me over my subject line, I am not affiliated with The Brothers Chaps or HomestarRunner.com.  It was a fitting for this post, that's all.  Yes, I have the same kind of condition that KSL Radio has when it comes to pissing people off - it's called Backbone Impaired.  I'll explain that little rub some other time.  Ooh, keepin' you interested, aren't I?  Okay... mebbe not...)
There was frost on my windshield this morning.  Plus, I was running late and I had to unearth my window scraper from under my backseat where it had become lodged quite snugly since January. And I hit the air-conditioning instead of the heater and I didn't notice until I was a block away from work and wondering why in the world my windshield wasn't clearing up more.  Yeeeesssss, it is officially autumn (there was even snow in the mountains!  And just last week, it was 70 degrees.  I love Utah weather ^_^).

Anyway, yesterday I got on the help wanted section of the online classifieds and basically e-mailed/faxed/dropped off my resume to every listing under administrative assistant and even a few that said executive secretary.  So far, I did get one reply.  It was for a real estate assistant position that I sent off last Friday that I didn't think I'd hear from since the listing was kind of old.  But I now have an interview of sorts on Thursday (eeee!!!)  The best part is that it's only four and a half blocks down the road from where I work now (yay for short commute!)  Wish me luck!

Today was the monthly company lunch and fun little activity, which this time was a paper airplane flying contest.  Once the ALMIGHTY UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT *insert thunder and lightning* finished his speaking from on high, we gorged ourselves on pizza and showed off the various creative paper airplane making talents.  I didn't enter, but I just watched everyone else fly their creations.  Someone actually built a model of a 747 with a space shuttle on the back (the shuttle was detachable).  It was pretty cool - so pretty that they never even flew it.  Well, it was fun.  But I'm a little peeved because I just met this really good looking guy from IT (he's actually the one who built the Boeing) and he was really nice and funny and... gosh, he's gorgeous.  And I only meet him the last week I'm here.  I have no manner of luck in the world.  Besides, he could be dating/married for all I know.  But he's soooo nice to look at... *sigh*

After lunch, though, an e-mail went out from my boss that announced that this was mine and one other lady's last week and there's going to be a big send-off on Friday.  I was kinda hoping to keep things on the down-low and make my quiet exit into wherever life takes me.  Oh well, it's nice that they want to have a little party for me.

One more thing: one of my co-workers asked me if I'd read the "Twilight" series by Stephanie Meyer.  I told her I hadn't and she told me about it.  At it's basic level, it's a vampire love story, but she said it was pretty action-packed and there's more to it.  I'm intrigued, but I'm wondering if anyone else has read it and what they thought of it.
So, I get an e-mail from my boss today saying that he wants to meet with me right before I leave.  When I go in to talk with him and the other manager of the department, they tell me that the higher-ups even higher up than them have cut back the temporary positions, which means that me and a couple of other people are losing our jobs as of next Friday.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.  Thanks for playing.  Enjoy the consolation toaster.

I didn't even do anything wrong!!!  See what happens when you do your best?  You get crapped on.  So much for that "six-month-to-a-year commitment."  June to September is three months, not six, morons.

Wasn't this where I was was three months ago?  No job, having to find one and navigate the hell of job hunting and just being pissed off about it.  I do have some money saved up, but with rent and utilities and a car payment (that I thankfully paid a little bit ahead), who knows how long it'll last?  And now I'm back to searching for jobs on Monster and BS-ing my way to a job that I'll probably lose in a few months anyway because they're done with me.  Why am I out here doing this anyway?  I could be home working for my dad either on the ranch or in the real estate company.  But noooo.... I have to have a retarded social life.  Which doesn't exist anyway.

I don't want to do this anymore.  Can I just go home?
