I just thought of this hilarious image concerning things in Deathly Hallows. Some spoilers:

In Deathly Hallows, Professor McGonagall has a cat Patronus that heavily resembles her Animagus form (a tabby cat with spectacle markings around its eyes).  So, we can take it as canon that whatever your Patronus is, that what your Animagus form would be.

So, it follows if Snape's Patronus is a doe, that would mean that if he were to become an Animagus... ... ...

*snerk*

Dude, I want to see a fanart of that :3

Oh my goodness that is hilarious. I could be easily wrong, but I always thought that a person's origonal or would-be patronus would match their animagus if they ever tried to be one. I also figured that you animagus doesn't change, but your patronus can in special cercumtances. The only special case we've seen is when the person conjuring the patronus has a certain person as their "happy thought." In which case the conjurer's potronus takes the shape of the other person's potronus.

I always thought that once you have your animagus form, it stays with you. But tell me if you think Jo put in another bone for the fans and Snape actually turned into a bat when he escaped.

He didn't really turn into a bat - he just flew the same way that Voldemort flew after Harry at the beginning.

"...he seems to have learned a few tricks from his master."
With a tinge of horror, Harry saw in the distance a huge, batlike shape flying through the darkness... (pg. 599)

Your filter makes it difficult to reply. It won't let me see any of your replies after my comment.

Anyway, that passage doesn't really prove anything unless you explain yourself, give your interpretation. Personally, I don't think he transformed probably for the same reason you don't. I was just wondering. Now explain!

The filter was in place when there were all those DH spoilers going around. I've taken the filter off now, so it should work.

"Batlike" is vastly different than "he actually turned into a bat and flew away." It's a metaphor (or simile, whatever you learned in your English class - it really makes no difference). The narrative is comparing Snape's escape to something that it really isn't, but it closely resembles. It's a poetic device.

And besides that, Jo's used the term "batlike" to describe Snape from day one. It really wasn't a bone to throw to fans (but it's fun to see anyway ^_^)
