With class weekend fast approaching, I decided today I would just push my nose to the grindstone and get everything done, no matter how much I didn't want to do it.  I have been carping about the lack of response from some of my groupmates, but I finally decided to hell with it and just do our section myself and email it to everyone so they know that there will be something to occupy our portion of the presentation other than us converting oxygen to carbon dioxide.

The result - a PowerPoint presentation that I am quite pleased with.  I even got YouTube links and sounds into it.  Quite frankly, I love this bad boy in a way that should be illegal ^_^  I'm thinking of uploading it to Google Docs and sharing it with the world (hopefully nobody would get too pissed off that I used things like music from Star Trek and sounds and images from Star Wars and Doctor Who - our theme was "The Future of Reference Librarianship" and I had some fun with that sucker.  It's all for educational purposes, so I don't know why it would be such a big deal.  "Famous Last Words," right?)

I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating - I've always wanted to make cool things like videos and stuff on the computer, but I've always had crappy computers.  But when my parents bought this shiny contraption, magic happened.

Plus, I got my other assignment done and ready to turn in.  That was a little more tedious because it was answering hypothetical reference questions, just to practice finding information.  The trick was to try to get beyond Google and Wikipedia because anyone can look up those things and if the best we can give them is a Google answer, why would someone bother coming to a reference librarian?  But while Google isn't the best place to go, About.com is a legitimate source.  I know, go figure.  But I kept wanting to go back and admire my PowerPoint handiwork.  Trust me - this isn't your normal PowerPoint.  Oh, what the hey, here's the link on my Google Docs - link.

(just so you know, I've never been into Star Trek.  I don't hate it or anything - it's just not something I got into - how many series can one person keep track of, honestly?  Don't ask me why I chose the theme from "The Next Generation" to open my PowerPoint)

I'm a lot happier than I was last night.  It's just fun to get all my stuff done and feel like I'm doing more than sitting around doing nothing.  As fun as that may be sometimes - it's nice to feel useful ^_^  (And the feedback from my group is very validating - I sent them the presentation and it's been pretty positive.  After no communication from any of them for the better part of two weeks, that is very gratifying).

ETA: Okay, I can't get the link to Google Docs to work.  I'm kinda bummed about that (glad I figured that out now, rather than get to class thinking my presentation was online when it really... wasn't).  I'll work on that and see if I can get that operational because - dang it - this is a really awesome presentation and I like to show off!!
