For the first time in ages
Apr. 6th, 2006 02:18 pmWhy is MySpace so blonde that it doesn't have a Books category? It has Dreams and Supernatural and some BS about Shopping, but nothing for the intellectually stimulated... sigh, that's why I still have my LiveJournal.
JK Rowling's official site, jkrowling.com has been busy of late. There is a spot on her site that has a door that is usually locked. The few times that it has been unlocked, we have received fascinating little tidbits such as the title of Harry Potter 6, chapter names and things like that. The door was unlocked this week and JK gave us... a test. The W.O.M.B.A.T. (Wizard's Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test). Basically, it's a qualification that both wizards and Muggles can earn because it's just a written exam. Most of it was about wizarding laws and regulations that come up in the Harry Potter books (NOT the movies... eesh, NO!)
Now, I have read all six books multiple times, as well as the extra books JK wrote for charity (Fantastic Beasts and Quidditch Through the Ages) and this test was a challenge. There were questions that I remember reading the name and knowing vaguely what it was, but I could not for the life of me remember what it was or how it was used. I do remember a question of what herb to use in case of a doxy bite, so I went to the chapter in Order of the Phoenix where Mrs. Weasley and the kids are mucking out Number 12 Grimmauld Place and she has a bottle of Doxycide, but it doesn't say what the stuff is made of. Argh! I wish that JK had written 1001 Magical Herbs and Fungi! (I guess that's what I get for cheating. Hey, who can blame me if she gave us 25 minutes to answer 17 questions and I keep my Harry Potter books within arm's reach of my desk?)
Anyway, the results are being graded. The test gave each person who took it an individual code so we could look up the progress of our results. Judging from the sound of it from Melissa, Sue and John (the PotterCast gurus and all hail from the fandom ^_^), I'm not the only one who found diffculty with the test. I'm hoping that once the test results are in, we'll have some other happy tidbit of news, like the title of book 7 or something. Actually, I think she might have some chapter titles from book seven because that's what she did wth Half-Blood Prince. The first time I remember the door opening, she gave us the names of chapters 2, 6, and 14. They were Spinner's End, Draco's Detour and Felix Felicis. Oh, and there was the description about the new Minister of Magic, except we didn't know that's what it was at the time.
Love from,
