So much for GRAMA...
Mar. 22nd, 2006 01:50 pmSo I'm trying to find some very basic information on the Utah High School Activities Association website and I can't find it anywhere. I'm trying to find out what the enrollment figures are between the different classifications, like 1A, 2A all the way up to 5A.
Okay, that made no sense. Let's see, I can't find a list that says 1A schools have, say, 150 or less students, 2A have 150-300 students, 3A has 300-1000 students, 4A had 1000-1500 student and 5A has 1500 to a billion students (obviously those aren't the real figures, but you get my meaning). I can find the individual high school enrollment figures and the different regions, but I don't have a breakdown of the actual rule as it is written on the rulebook. It isn't even cleverly hidden in the handbook section on Lighting Safety, like I figured those dopes from Panguitch and Duchesne would do so as to put inquisitive college students like me off the trail (believe me, I checked).
Shouldn't this be public knowledge? Shouldn't I be able to access this information whenever I want? It might not exactly be government records (like I suggested in my subject line), but it's the same idea. I'd have thought that this would be something that would be easy to find. I thought it would written under "Breakdown of Classification" or "Region Alignments" or something. Some mental giant got the brilliant idea to put the Amendment procedures under the same article in the UHSAA Constitution as Region Alignments. I guess outlining the procedures to amend the Constitution were more important than outlining the region alignments procedures because they conveniently left that bit out.
Luckily, I'm on a first-name basis with the principal of West Desert High School and I have his e-mail address (just one of the perks of graduating from such a small school). Surely he can put me in touch with the website or page in the handbook or someone who could tell me or just send me the list. It's not like it's that big of a deal. I just don't get why the UHSAA would make it so hard to find that kind of information. This should just be the sort of tidbit that people involved in high school activities want to know. It's on the same plane of importance as the school's enrollment figures. I could see something like that being a Jeopardy question.
Hmmm...I might have an article in this. It's just too bad that most of the student population at Utah State doesn't care much about fairness in high school competitions. Then again, who better to go to with a giant conspiracy theory than the campus of an accredited four-year university in America?
