Just saw "Cars" and ooh-boy, was that a freaking awesome movie!!  If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it.  Pixar makes such cool movies and I really hope they keep it up.  Everyone said that "The Incredibles" was the best ever, but really, "Cars" owns.

Lighting McQueen is a hot shot race car celebrity in a world where the people are all cars.  I thoroughly enjoyed the racing stadium scene, from Bob Costas playing one of the sports commentators, the "Redneck" area in the stands and the "restroom" bit where the guys are all going in and out and the girls are in a long line (anyone who's been to any sporting event know what I'm talking about).  Anywho, Lightning pretty much has no friends, but he's the LeBron James of racing and he's about to be the first rookie to win the Piston Cup.  He and two other cars end up in a three way tie and they have to compete in a tiebreaker race in California in a week.  Pretty much the only one that sticks around for him is his truck driver (well, truck) Mack, only because Lightning's "agent" (a big mouth nit that just comes through the truck's phone), Harv, makes him.  Lightning makes Mack drive through the night so that Lightning can get to California first and start schmoozing with the big-shot sponsors because his sponsor, Rust-Eeze, is a bumper ointment (just think really hard about what the human equivalent would be).  Mack falls asleep and these really flashy gangsta cars push Mack around and Lightning gets separated from Mack and gets lost on Route 66.

The town that Lightning ends up in, Radiator Springs, is just great.  There's these two Italian cars that run a tire shop and really want to meet a Ferrari racing car and I had to laugh at their vociferousness when Lightning said that he didn't know anyone who ran the European track.  The hippie VW bus and the military Jeep had some priceless banter, but the best ever (mostly because I'm a fan already) was Larry the Cable Guy as the tow truck, Mater.  Mater and Lightning end up being friends and go -- get this -- "Tractor Tipping", but they have to be careful not to wake up Frank, who ends up being the bull-type combine and chases those two goons around.  The best, however, had to be when the Radiator Springs cars show up at the big race and Mater yells "Git R Done!"

And the soundtrack...I fell in *biscuit* with the soundtrack from the first song in the movie ("Real Gone" by Sheryl Crow). By the time the credits had ended with Brad Paisley singing "Find Yourself", I knew I had a mission to find that soundtrack (which I did).  John Mayer's on it, as is Hank William Sr. (cherry on the extra icing on the hot fudge sundae).  Rascal Flatts does end up singing "Life is a Highway", but I suppose that can be forgiven, since they have Brad Paisley in there twice ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

There's so much great characterization and jokes in Cars (ie, the minivans who get lost in Radiator Springs -- stay for after the credits for more stuff from them) and the "flies" are actually VW Beetles (talk about your irony).  Pixar's movies are so the best ever.  There aren't as many low-brow bodily function jokes that permeate kids' movies nowadays that really aren't that funny, but Pixar can do without them (by and large) and still pull together a quality product.  The storyline is simple, which means it's easy to keep track of and there aren't any glaring plotholes or anything like that.  The characters are memorable and lovable and everything you want a movie to have in characters.  Nearly flawless, actually.  Everyone and their grandma should go see Cars. (I personally already know what I want for Christmas -- that is, if the DVD's out by then, which, why shouldn't it be?)

Thanks, and come again!

Love from,
