I don't usually stray into political debate on my LiveJournal, but this has got me upset and pissed off to no end.  One of my favorite modes of news and information has recently come under attack and I think I can find it in my heart to come to their aid and offer a small(ish) post on my humble LJ.

Be Warned: When I'm in this state of mind, I have to rant and rail, which the people that this is directed toward need to hear more often than they do.  The following is politically charged and heated and will potentially piss a fair number of people off.  If you're having a good day, you have the right to go read something else.  I won't try to pass a law to make you read my post.

There are a few things I want government to do for me:
1. Protect my country from those who wish me and my loved ones harm
2. Protect my civil rights so I can make my own decisions as to what I do with my freedom
3. Keep out of my day-to-day business.

Hmmm, none of that includes regulating the modes through which I choose to acquire news and information.

Apparently, there is a report calling for a bill to go through the House and Senate saying that talk radio is running the country and how to fix this "problem." Read the report here (but come right back - FYI, "Progressive" here means "power-hungry liberal that can't stand fair competition").  It's on a liberal-slant website, but read between the lines and I think you get the picture.  These guys want the "Nanny-Gubmint" to take care of us and to tell us what to do and who to listen to and watch, which does not include oh-so-powerful conservative talk radio (but it's okay for lying piles of slime like NBC, CBS, ABC and The New York Times to exist without competition).  They want to require radio stations that play conservative talk shows like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levine and others to have to play an equal amount of liberal talk shows (which have pretty much tanked on their own and will potentially tank any radio station that gives them air time).

What this report omits (conveeeeeniently enough) is that this website is funded by George Soros, John Podesta and others who support Whore-rible Hillary Clinton and want her as president (talk about a sign of the Apocalypse) and would love nothing more than to take away the conservative and balanced options that people can now use to access news and information.

Tell me again, how do you say "steaming pile of bullshit" in Liberal-ese?

In any other industry, the fact that people choose to listen to Program A over Program B would mean that Program B is not what Joe Average Audience wants and would get canceled or at least get slotted in a 3:00 am time slot that only wandering drunks are awake to listen to.  Usually, when people DON'T CHOOSE a TV or radio program, it usually means that said program sucks and it gets canceled.  But when you're a liberal-slant program that nobody likes to listen to, you call Whore-rible Hillary and her power-addicted liberal gubmint buddies to write a law making it illegal to broadcast any program that she doesn't like.

So much for the home of the free.

Liberals aren't successful on talk radio because they don't get ratings and they don't get ratings because *gasp* NOBODY LISTENS TO THEM!!!  (it's really sad when the world at large needs a recent college grad to explain this sort of 1+1=2 logic with big CAPSLOCK bold statements, but I have to keep reminding myself that some people weren't fortunate enough to make it through college without requiring Algore and Harry Reid's signatures on their degrees).  Liberals only use well-established media (i.e. NBC, CBS, ABC, The New York Times, The LA Times, bumper stickers - anything that was around when there were only three TV channels for people to choose from) so that they don't have to work to have their voices heard.  All they have to do is open their mouths and people are obligated to listen.

Conservatives, on the other hand, have EARNED their place on the radio and on cable TV and have worked to have their voices heard and they have been rewarded with an audience that is sick and tired of being told that Kennedy was God (inasmuch as the Liberal mythology includes God), Nixon was Satan, Vietnam was a sham and the Soviet Union magically and inexplicably disappeared.  People now have a CHOICE, which is why this country exists the way that it does, so conservative radio has thrived and been successful.

In case you missed the 1980s, the Soviet Union collapsed (Reagan kicked ass).  We do NOT live in Communist China nor Cuba and Hugo Chavez does not live in Washington.  Legally, the US government does not have power over the media (financially is a different story) and over what people choose for information and entertainment.  Consumers can decide what programs they listen to the same way they can decide whether they drink Pepsi or Coke.  Whether that program is Fox News over MSNBC is the average consumer's business, not their senator's.

How can you say that it's not the public interest to have choices in radio and TV?  Oh right, whatever Hillary doesn't like is certainly not in the public interest.  How stupid of me to overlook that Queen Clinton is soooo beloved of us regular American peasants.  Yeah, I remember life under Stalin and Chariman Mao, those were the good times </sarcasm>

Speaking of public interest, average Americans do NOT give a rat's ass in hell about hearing both views, especially those that they vehemently diagree with and (furthermore) those that they already have made a decision about.  The problem with this report is that it basically says that you only need to hear both views until you finally concede and take the view that they want you to take.  After that, you will only get leftist crap all the time, free speech and fairness be damned.

I purposely don't listen to or read news stories that come from certain news sources and syndicates because I know that they're going to have a political slant that I find untrue and that challenge my values and views (BTW: I spent four years in a liberal arts major; my values and views have been challenged more than the average person gets in their lifetime, so NEVER tell me that I'm living ignorantly in my happy Conservative bubble.  It's a testament to how convicted I am in my beliefs that I still believe the same things I believed when I was a lowly college freshman.  I also have more ammo to throw at anyone that tries to sway me away from my core values, so that's a good thing).

Liberals, you have NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, NPR, The New York Times and the public school system.  Keep away from conservatives' talk radio.  Let us have options.  That's how our country works, just in case you missed American Government class.

Love to all who love freedom,
Jenny Wildcat

PS, When I say "Conservative," that doesn't necessarily mean "Republican."  Republicans have been really tanking lately and ticking off a lot of people, including their Conservative base, with all this illegal immigrant stuff.  They've got to get away from dealing with the "Nanny-Gubmint" liberals like Teddy Kennedy and start sticking with the people who voted for them.
