This may sound strange, but I hate having to do my laundry at home.  I would much rather do it at school, even with the exorbant prices those ghetto coin-op machines charge.  The reason being: my mom won't let my sister and I just do one load each of our own clothes.  We have to mix it in with the rest of the family's, which means I may have to wait to get clean skivvies until the load Mom put all my pairs in is washed, which could be next Thursday.  And she won't let us work the washer and dryer because they are her "toys" (oy, she really needs to take a spin on the four-wheeler or something).  The worst part is that my things get mixed up in the washer and dryer and I may end up at school with fifteen individual socks and all the mates in my 13-year-old sister's sock drawer at home or sucked up in the mom's high-tech dryer.  In short, I like doing my week's laundry in one load, because I can keep track of my own stuff, it's done in one load and I don't have to wait.  I just can't do that at home.

To my main topic: For those of you who are not "die-hard" fans of any team, I would advise against ever becoming one.  As the term implies, "die-hard" means that this fan will never go away, no matter how much pain and anguish the team and opponents put you through.  For fans of some teams (the Detroit Lions come to mind), being die-hard is a long road, but I suppose they have thick skins for it (or they've checked themselves into the loony bin by this time).

After blowing a 12-point lead against the Sacramento Kings last Friday, the Utah Jazz embarked on the traditional pre-Christmas road trip.  First stop: the New York Knicks, who pretty much had to find Joe-Blows off the street to come play because most of their players are out with injury or they were suspended for fighting during a game (and they wonder why the NBA is going to hell).

Okay, so the Jazz were the NBA's darlings at the beginning of the year because they were -- OMFGWTFLiekWHOA! -- winning!!  A lot.  As in, the best record in the league (not just the West, TEH WHOEL LEAGUE!!) Since Stockton retired and Malone went in search of his championship (with the effing LAKERS of all teams... that's another rant), life as a Jazz fan has been pretty depressing, so this was more than a welcome development.

Except that they were winning extremely close games, even though they typically had led substantially during the game ("had" being the operative word here).  It had to come back and bite them in the butt and it has for the past two games.  They LOST by ONE MEASLY POINT in OVERTIME to the Knicks after LEADING BY SIXTEEN POINTS in the second quarter.  Needless to say, I was NOT a happy Jazz fan, especially after the agony of the Sacramento game last Friday.  On the other hand, the Colts won (finally!), so I guess I get just one winning team at a time.

What gets me is that nearly every time I watch a team I support for a substantial period of time, they start sucking it up.  On the other hand, when I watch a team that I want desperately to lose, Bill Parcells throws in Tony Romo in the third quarter and we never hear the end of it (Jay Cutler, much?)  I feel like the Miami Dolphins fan that every time he turned on the TV, he found that his team had been doing well, but the moment he started watching, they would fumble the ball or botch a pass or the defense would fall on their butts.  With respect to the teams I dislike having success when I watch, I feel like Harry Potter in the first book after he loses all those points for Gryffindor and the Slytherins start thanking him in the hallways.

The way I figure it, any team that wants to win should send me a letter and a suitcase full of large unmarked bills telling me NOT to root for their team, or at least to not follow their season.  Call me a little superstitious, but I'm beginning to think I'm kinda bad luck for anybody.  The same goes for movies and music artists at awards shows.  The ones I like hardly ever win and the ones I hate take everything home (coughcoughCarrieUnderwoodcoughRascalFlattscoughcoughhaaaackTitaniccoughcough).
