Never Gonna Happen
Jul. 11th, 2006 02:33 pmOkay, read this piece of garbage: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060705/ap_on_re_us/simpl_wurdz;_ylt=AkN_9WXCBqTXHQJzQ2mzwf0DW7oF;_ylu=X3oDMTBhZDhxNDFzBHNlYwNtZW5ld3M- (copy and paste it because I'm not smart enough to use an HTML link) and come right back.
Can anyone explain to me the logic of trying to rewrite the entire spelling of the English language overnight? (Obviously this writer tries and horribly fails since you have to reeeeally be paying attention to under what the crap he's talking about). Spoken and written English are two very different things and you can't just say "Right, well if you spell things the way they sound then everything is so much easier." English has been used and tweaked and abused for so long that you just can't go around changing meanings and spellings left and right. Sure, there have been changes in definitions and things in the past, but those a bits and pieces at a time. These nimrods are proposing chucking ol' Webster out the window and starting from scratch, which completely undermines our way of communicating (even if those dastardly Netspeakers use "u" instead of "you" *shudders*)
It's just a weak excuse to make students who can't spell feel better about themselves (SELF-ESTEEM BE DAMNED!!!!1!!! Trust me, this will be the bane of civilized society -- kids need to be held accountable and the Politcally Correct bastards in government and on Oprah need to go spit themselves.)
Have a Nice Day ^_~
