The Joy of New Fandoms

I knew this would happen.  I knew that if I even gave it chance, I would be hooked.  So what did I do?

I caved and watched the first episode of "Heroes."

I was intrigued by it last season, but as it was on at the same time as "24," there was no way I was going to get into it then.  But I was bored Sunday night and I decided to watch the first episode on TV Links... which turned into the next two on Monday and the fourth last night.  And now, there's no going back.  At all.

What's more is that the new season starts in a few weeks for the new fall seasons, which is good because it won't overlap with "24" (at least, I hope is doesn't go over into next spring).  Now I'm just trying to get the first season watched before September 24.  I'm almost tempted to fork out the money for the DVD boxed set, even though I shouldn't be spending money like that.  Oy...

Anyway, just a few of my initial thoughts.  I don't know if it's really necessary, but it's cut to guard against spoilers:

Hiro is my favorite.  Hands down.  While everyone else is all freaked out and emo about their powers, Hiro instead goes: "Cool, I can teleport inside the girls' bathroom! And while I'm at it, maybe I can take a short trip to New York and back and then go on a winning spree in Vegas (even though I really don't like it)!"  That's how I wish superhero stories would treat new powers instead of going "OMG I'm a FREAK!!!1!1!! Dey iz gunna lock mee up!"  I think Hiro's going to be the best at what he does because he really works at it and tries to get better rather than get scared by what he's doing (then again, I guess being able to push your own exposed ribs back into place is a little disconcerting).

As cool as Hiro is though, Niki's power is the most intriguing because I don't know of any other comic book superhero that has her crazed alter-ego power (granted, I'm sort of a comic-book hero newbie so there's not a whole lot that I know about this stuff).  And she's from Vegas, which I can relate to a little bit more than relating to someone running for Congress in New York (don't ask me why I can relate to a single-mom that supports herself and her child by putting porn videos of herself on the internet, I just can.  Maybe that's my super power ^_^)

Anyway, I'm into "Heroes" now.  I need to go to a fandom rehab clinic or something.

And they just announced that there will be cake and ice cream in the conference room for somebody's birthday!  Don't know the person at all, but any excuse for cake and ice cream, right?

Jest so's ya know - Heroes takes a spring break from about the middle of March to the middle of April (at least it did this season) and then comes back and ends in June. It's a full season, not like fall/spring shows.

Anyways, if you don't want to watch it when it's on TV watch it at nbc.com. They usually post it the next day or so. Plus - if you become a Heroes-fan, you might want to check out the online comics (since they add to the mythos of Heroes).

That'll give me something to do at work the next day, definitely ^_^

Oooh... online comics! That's something else I've gotten into recently. I don't know what's wrong with me. I graduate from college and all of a sudden I have time for all this fan-geeky-ness.
